Lakota Local School District students will have no school Tuesday, Nov. 3, while teachers attend a professional development day that falls on Election Day.

Hopewell Junior School posted the closure on its website, listing the day as "No school for students/Teachers PD." The announcement did not specify whether the closure applies to all Lakota buildings.

Parents heading to the polls will need to arrange childcare for the same day. Polls in Butler County open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m., according to the REALTOR Alliance of Greater Cincinnati's election guide.

Lakota voters in West Chester Township and Liberty Township will also find the district's $223 million bond issue on the Nov. 3 ballot. The replacement levy is estimated at an average of 2.2 mills per dollar of taxable value. According to the REALTOR Alliance guide, the annual cost to homeowners would be about $77 per $100,000 of market value, beginning in 2029. The levy would replace a current bond that expires in 2028.

According to the district's finances page, Lakota structured the proposal so new tax collections would not begin until 2029, after current debt rolls off. The district has said homeowners should see no increase in their property-tax bill from the bond issue.

Early in-person voting and absentee voting by mail began Oct. 6 at the Butler County Board of Elections, 1802 Princeton Road, Suite 600, Hamilton. Absentee ballots must reach the board of elections by 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3.
