Cherokee Elementary's PTA kicks off the 2026-27 school year with a monthly meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 6 p.m. in the school's Innovation HUB. All parents, guardians, and extended family members are invited, according to an announcement on the school's news page published Wednesday, July 29.
The Liberty Township school serves roughly 800 students in grades 3-6 on Kyles Station Road. The PTA funds what it calls the "extras" that make learning fun: contributions toward the school's Innovation Hub and playground equipment, Family Fun Nights, author visits, storytellers, symphony performances, science programs and after-school programs. The Innovation Hub is a technology, collaboration and creativity space that every Lakota Local School District building maintains.
No RSVP is required.
The organization stressed that members don't need to attend every meeting or be available during school hours. Grandparents, aunts, and uncles are welcome alongside parents and guardians. Volunteers can help from home, work or school, and the PTA said it will match people's availability and interests to tasks that need doing, even if someone can spare only 30 minutes.
Before the first bell
The PTA's monthly meeting comes about two weeks after classes begin. Cherokee's first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 13. Before that, families have two chances to connect:
- Friday, Aug. 7, 6-8 p.m.: Back-to-School Bash at the Cherokee Playground. A family-friendly evening to reconnect with friends, meet new Cheetah families, shop spirit wear, and meet PTA members.
- Tuesday, Aug. 11: Back-to-School Open House with a staggered schedule by grade, as we reported July 16.
The Aug. 26 meeting is free and open to anyone connected to a Cherokee student.
