Lakota East carries a two-game winning streak into a 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, road game at Hamilton in Greater Miami Conference (GMC) play.

The Thunderhawks enter ranked No. 8 in the WLWT Blitz 5 Top 25 and riding the arm of junior quarterback Nile Knutson, who threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns in the Sept. 11 homecoming victory over Mason. Kicker AJ Fitzstephens sealed that 24-20 win with a 28-yard field goal in the final minute, according to the Lakota East athletics site.

The clutch kick was nothing new for Fitzstephens, who connected from 40 and 37 yards against Lakota West earlier this season. The week before the Mason game, East earned a 31-28 road win at Oak Hills to start the streak.

Lakota East (3-1, 2-1 GMC) has won consecutive conference games since a 48-18 Week 2 loss to rival Lakota West. Fourth-year head coach Jon Kitna reshaped his offense this season after losing several key skill players from a 2025 squad that went 8-4 and won a playoff game before falling to St. Xavier in the second round. Knutson, who completed 207 of 284 passes for 2,486 yards and 22 touchdowns as a sophomore, has been the constant. Senior receiver Carter Jones returned as his top target.

"We lost a lot of production, man," Kitna said in an August preseason interview with The Report. "Our quarterback is back, our offensive line is back, but we lost every one of our skilled players except for Carter Jones."

Hamilton (1-3, 1-2 GMC) enters searching for answers on offense. The Big Blue managed eight total yards in the first half and finished with just one first down in a 42-7 loss to Lakota West on Sept. 12, their third running-clock defeat in four games. Quarterback Trae Davidson was under pressure all night.

Hamilton head coach Arvie Crouch acknowledged the offensive struggles after that loss.

"Offense was non-existent … We can't continue to do that," Crouch said after the Sept. 12 game against Lakota West.

Crouch pointed to defensive improvement as a reason for optimism, noting his players showed character despite the lopsided score. Hamilton sophomore Bentley Sturgeon, whose kickoff return provided the Big Blue's only points against Lakota West, said after that game that his team planned to prepare hard for the Thunderhawks.

A win Friday would push Lakota East to 3-1 in conference play at the season's midpoint.
