Drivers who use Liberty Fairfield Road in Liberty Township will need to find another way around starting at 6 p.m. Friday, August 7, when the road shuts down completely for 10 days to allow crews to replace a bridge.

The Butler County Engineer's Office announced Monday that the full closure begins at the bridge located 0.2 miles south of S.R. 4, between Shafor Drive and Randall Drive. The road is scheduled to reopen by 6 a.m. Monday, August 17.

The $1.3 million bridge replacement project, funded by the Butler County Engineer's Office and performed by Sunesis Construction Company, started the week of Monday, July 6, with lane restrictions and flaggers controlling traffic through the work zone. The upcoming 10-day shutdown is the most disruptive phase of the project.

Detour routes

Northbound Liberty Fairfield Road traffic will detour west on Millikin Road, then northeast on S.R. 4. Southbound traffic reverses the route: southwest on S.R. 4 to east on Millikin Road.

What comes after

Once the road reopens on August 17, no additional lane restrictions are planned for the remainder of construction, according to the engineer's office. The full project is expected to wrap up by early September 2026, weather permitting.
