Three adults and a teenager face charges after West Chester Township police say they threw a pineapple from a moving car at a Tesla on Oct. 1, shattering the driver's windshield.
Jacob Braun, 18, of Harrison; Bronson Moore, 18, of Liberty Township; Danden Schlake, 18, of Miamitown; and an unnamed 17-year-old were charged Friday, Oct. 2, according to Fox 19. Braun, Moore and the juvenile each face vehicular vandalism and complicity charges. Schlake was charged with complicity alone. All are minor misdemeanor offenses.
West Chester Police Lt. David Tivin announced the charges at a Wednesday, Oct. 7 press conference. According to the Journal-News, victim Alhim Gonzalez told police he was driving his 2026 Tesla westbound on West Chester Road when someone in an eastbound gray Chevrolet Traverse threw a pineapple at his car, causing what police called "significant" damage.
Tesla camera footage helped officers identify the suspect vehicle. About 24 minutes after the 11:04 p.m. call, Officer Zachery Clark stopped a matching vehicle near Cincinnati-Dayton Road and Station Road. Dried egg yolk covered the car's exterior.
The Oct. 1 call was the third report that evening of objects being thrown from a vehicle in West Chester, with other callers reporting eggs and ice.
Tivin said the suspects were adults engaging in dangerous behavior, not kids making bad choices. He warned that a driver could veer off the road, collide head-on with another motorist or strike a tree. "Someone could be seriously injured … if not killed," Tivin said.
He said this was the first time West Chester police had dealt with this type of vehicular vandalism, aside from a past report involving nails thrown onto a roadway. Police Chief Brian Rebholz also spoke at the press conference, warning that actions that may seem funny online can have severe consequences.
No statements from the suspects or their attorneys appear in public records as of Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The same night as the West Chester incident, six drivers filed police reports with the Warren County Sheriff's Office after objects were thrown at their vehicles along Socialville-Foster Road in Liberty Township. One victim, Tori Frank, told WLWT on Oct. 4 that she believed a frozen water bottle shattered her windshield, estimating the repair at nearly $1,000.
West Chester police and the Warren County Sheriff's Office are sharing information, but Tivin would not confirm whether the West Chester and Liberty Township incidents are connected. As of Oct. 4, the sheriff's office had not made arrests in the Liberty Township cases.
