West Chester Township's Board of Zoning Appeals will consider whether to let an Islamic center expand onto a neighboring property when the board meets Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Dar-e-Zehra, a nonprofit Islamic center at 7285 Cincinnati Dayton Road, is seeking conditional use approval to add the adjacent lot at 7303 Cincinnati Dayton Road to its campus, according to the BZA's meeting agenda. The existing home on that property would be kept and used for dining, social gatherings, family activities and supervised recreation. Religious services would stay in the current building.
The proposal also calls for coordinated parking and circulation improvements between the two properties. The goal is more on-site parking, less overflow and better vehicle access during larger gatherings.
That case is one of four on the Oct. 14 agenda. The board meets at 6 p.m. at Township Hall, 9113 Cincinnati Dayton Road.
Historical Society seeks pavilion for wagon
Mary Jo Bicknell, representing the West Chester-Union Township Historical Society, is asking for a variance to build a 12-foot-by-14-foot open-sided pavilion in the front yard of the Station Road Schoolhouse property at 6670 Station Road. The 168-square-foot structure would sit about 25 feet from the side property line and provide permanent weather protection for a nineteenth-century horse-drawn wagon on display at the site.
The schoolhouse, built in 1900, sits on a campus the township purchased in 1999 and later sold to the Historical Society for $1, according to the Journal-News. The grounds already feature a walk-through garden with native plants, a life-size bison statue and a windmill.
Two more cases round out the agenda
Hutsenpiller Contractors Inc. returns with a case continued from the Monday, Sept. 14 meeting. The company is requesting conditional use approval for a new two-story building at 6749 Station Road. The first floor would house retail and the second floor offices. The building would measure 80 feet by 60 feet.
Kevin and Carol Jamison are requesting a rear-yard setback variance at 7374 Preserve Place to add roughly 84 square feet to an existing three-season porch. The addition would reduce the required 45-foot setback to about 39 feet.
Residents can address the board on any case during public comment. Speakers must state their name and address for the record. The board's next meeting after Oct. 14 is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m.
