Cherokee Elementary students collected 3,197 items for Reach Out Lakota through the school's Stuff the Bus campaign, topping last year's total.

Sixth graders led the way. They donated 1,655 items to claim first place in the grade-level competition, earning extra recess and popcorn. Fifth graders finished second with 580 items, winning extra recess. By the numbers, the sixth-grade total was nearly triple the runner-up's count.

The school's Student Leadership Team, led by Mr. Caulfield, handled collecting and counting every donated item, according to the school's Oct. 30 newsletter. The newsletter, signed by the principal and assistant principal Mrs. Welling, said the donations will make a meaningful difference for local families in need.
