Lakota West shifts to block day schedule starting Sept. 16

Lakota West High School students will shift to a new Block Day schedule starting Wednesday, Sept. 16, giving families about a month to prepare for a change that reshapes the weekly class routine for nearly 3,000 students.

The West Chester Township school announced the change on its news page on Saturday, Aug. 15. Until the first Block Day, students will continue following the standard seven-period schedule they began the year with.

How it works

Block Day scheduling extends class periods, giving teachers more time for labs and projects. Instead of cycling through all seven periods daily, students will attend a subset of classes on each Block Day:

Wednesday, Sept. 16: Periods 1, 3, 5 and 7
Thursday, Sept. 17: Periods 2, 4, 5 and 6

Period 5 meets on both days. Both days also include an XH period immediately after fifth period.

The school's announcement does not specify how long each extended period will run or whether Block Days will recur weekly after the Sept. 16–17 launch.

What families should know

The schedule means students will not attend all seven classes on a single Block Day. Families should note which periods fall on which day so students arrive prepared for the right courses.

The change affects all Lakota West Main Campus students in grades 9 through 12. The school enrolls approximately 2,968 students.

The district has been busy preparing for the new school year. As we reported Aug. 12, Lakota named several new building leaders across the district ahead of the first day of classes.
