West Chester Township is investing $250,000 in a master plan to revitalize Keehner Park, and officials want residents to help decide what comes next.
The state-funded project will guide a comprehensive upgrade while preserving the 123-acre park's natural character. The most pressing issue: tree loss. Township Administrator Lisa Brown told WCPO the park has been "deforested due to blight within the trees," and the plan aims to "renaturalize the area through reforestation."
Planned improvements include refreshing the amphitheater, adding new playgrounds and shelters, and expanding trails.
The Keehner Park property, at 7211 and 7411 Barret Road, was purchased by the township in 1976 for $235,000 from John S. Keehner and Hilda B. Keehner.
The township is also investing $5 million in Beckett Parks, with construction underway at Beckett Park East to add pickleball courts and a walking trail.
Residents were able to share ideas at a community meeting July 14 at West Chester Township Hall.
